Opening Ceremony
First, the stunningly charming Mikata High School ALT, Patrick, opened the camp and asked Mr. Imai to give a short speech. After Mr. Imai's speech, Patrick and Mr. Makino told everyone the rules and goals of the camp. Then, all the ALTs introduced themselves.
Name Card Exchange
All the students and teachers brought name cards with them. During Name Card Exchange, everyone had to have a conversation with their partner and ask them at least three questions. Then, they could write the information on the back of the name card that they received. Everyone had a lot of fun exchanging name cards and talking in English. Many people exchanged over 10 name cards!
English Group Game
We played two games. First, we played Pictionary and then we played "The Balloon Game". First, Patrick and Mr. Makino explained pictionary. In Pictionary, a person runs to the board and picks up a piece of paper and then must draw the word that is on the paper. The person's group must then guess the word. Everyone had fun drawing and speaking English. We also played "The Balloon Game", where students must say an English sentence and hit the balloon before it falls to the ground.
English Music Games
First, the students had to whisper the lyrics of the songs to the person in the back and then that person must write down the lyrics. The students used tubes to whisper the lyrics. Afterwards, we sand the song that we were whispering.
Presentation by Ms. Shimamoto
Ms. Shimamoto did a homestay in Australia for 9 months so she talked to everyone about her trip.
Lunch Time
The students cooked two different foreign foods for lunch. We cooked Shepherd's Pie from England and Peanut Butter and Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies from America. Everyone had fun cooking together. After cooking, Bill prayed over the food and then we ate. The food was very delicious and we all could have fun speaking English. Afterwards, we had to clean (T_T).
Presentation by Shintarou Matsumia
Shintarou Matsumia is a student at Mikata High School. Last year, he homestayed in Switzerland for one year. He gave a presentation about his trip to Switzerland.
Closing Ceremony
During closing ceremony. Mr. Takatori gave a speech on behalf of the English teachers. Then, Saki Isobe, from class 2-1, gave a speech on behalf of the students. Finally Danielle, an ALT from Wakasa High School, gave a speech on behalf of the ALTs. Danielle said she had a lot of fun and that Mikata High School students were great and spoke very good English. Everyone said thank you and said they enjoyed the camp. Then all the students received a certificate saying they completed Mikata's English Camp. Then we took a big group picture. Doesn't everyone look happy?
